Las Locas, a new restaurant serving Mexican cuisine, has opened in Center City.
It is located at 38 S. 19th Street, oft of Chestnut, (215-568-2717) at the former location of the Olive Branch. It is owned by Barbara Spadaro and her daughter, Rebecca.
A translation of "Las Locas" is "the crazy women", and Barbara says, "The restaurant is named for us."
Barbara is also the owner of another Mexican Restaurant, El Azieca, which is located at 714 Chestnut Street.
She describes Las Locas as "Mex-lectic," dubbing it El Azteca's casual, yet upscale little sister.
Recently I had dinner at Las Locas with two companions, Camille and Harris.
The inside of Las Locas is decorated with Southwestern style vases and large potted plants. Colorful woven carpets hang from the walls, along with draperies made from Moroccan linen.
The ceiling lights are purposely dimmed, and there are candles on each table, creating a soft, almost private sense.
