W.B. Doner & Co. and its 325 Southfield employees are expected to be in a new headquarters early this week after being tested under fire all last week.
A Sunday afternoon fire ravaged the company's 79,000-square-foot, three-story company headquarters Aug. 4, giving company executives just hours to find new places to get their people back to work Monday morning.
As the flames of the five-alarm electrical fire tore through the 34-year-old building at 25900 Northwestern Highway--one of Southfield's first office buildings--top executives stood outside, fanning out, hitting the phones and informing workers, clients and vendors of their plan to stay in business.
By 10:30 that night, everyone had been called. It wasn't until 6 the next morning that insurance adjusters were allowed in to inspect the damage estimated at several million dollars. The building now is being gutted, and it's expected to be nine months before the company can return to the headquarters, which occupied the entire building.
