Delay stalls arrival of Quark upgrade
You wouldn't think something called Xpress would arrive with a 200% schedule overrun. But Quark Inc.'s QuarkXpress 4.0, the latest version of the popular desktop publishing product, is still in beta and probably destined for a fourth-quarter 1997 release. Quark expects to release a corresponding version of Quark Publishing System-the company's publication management and workflow software-within three months of the release of QuarkXpress 4.0.
Xpress 4.0 should be a slamdunk upgrade for present users. For organizations that produce large documents, new features such as indexing and multiple-document handling alone will make it worthwhile. Some of Xpress 4.0's new features will be "check mark" items that Xpress should have had previously. One of these is indexingwhile you could previously buy an add-on for this task, the integration was rough. The new indexing is straightforward for both experienced users and novices, and will open up new apps for the product. I wasn't able to test...
