Apparently, Fredericksburg, Va., will not be part of the backlash against big-box retail aimed at limiting the growth of Wal-Mart and its ilk in numerous communities across the country.
Nestled on the border of Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties, Fredericksburg residents soon will be just a few miles from three Wal-Mart Supercenters stores in excess of 200,000 square feet selling groceries and housing Tire & Lube Expresses, portrait studios and hair salons - and one regular ol' Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart owns these properties within a half-hour drive of Fredericksburg:
* A 222,000-square- foot supercenter at the Central Park shopping center on Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg;
* A 100,000-square-foot store on Washington Square Plaza in Fredericksburg that the company plans to double in size and convert to a supercenter by the spring of 2006;
* A 129,000-square-foot store on Garrisonville Road in Stafford;
