Paul "Tony" Novelly is chairman and chief executive of Apex Oil Co.
The late Samuel Goldstein brought Novelly into Apex Oil in the late 1960s, and they built the company to what was reported to be the largest private company in Missouri in the 1980s. Novelly bought Goldstein's interest in Apex in 1994; Goldstein died in 2000.
Today, Apex Oil ranks as St. Louis' sixth largest private firm, with estimated revenue of $2 billion last year.
