IBM IN SEPTEMBER will add some muscle to its WebSphere 3.0 application server with an add-on Performance Pack that helps electronic-commerce applications handle more demanding workloads.
Version 3.0 of the Performance Pack contains several systems management features, including compatibility with Tivoli's enterprise products, security, better control over the products caching capabilities, and improved Linux support.
"We think of this version as a way to turbocharge servers. It can help users experiencing either higher workloads on servers due to increased page hits or for those who need help responding to spikes in activities," said Nigel Beck, program director of WebSphere marketing at IBM, in Somers, N.Y.
