Wells Fargo & Co. is reworking its Internet banking site to create a portal it hopes will turn web surfers into online bank customers.
Similar to personalized pages providing customized news, stock quotes and other information that are offered by Yahoo and other portals, Wells' new effort makes it one of the few banks striving to attract a wider, nonfinancial audience. Well officials hope to cultivate site visitors and transform them into bank customers.
Mywellsfargo.com - the project's working title - is being piloted now but could roll out nationwide by late March or early April, said Catherine Graeber, Wells senior vice president for online financial services. Wells will continue to add services, she said, like ewallet, electronic bill presentment and payment, credit card and mortgage products throughout this year.
