Significant additions were made in the Wenger Technical Center, at Wenger Manufacturing's, Sabetha, Kansas. New machines, including extruders, dryers and accessory equipment, as well as expanded services are now offered. New dryers added to the research facility include the Series VII True-Tempo, Model 600, a 3-pass dryer equipped with both metal pan conveyers and polyester belt; and a three-stage laboratory dryer, that determines optimum drying conditions. Extruders new to the tech center are the Optima II X-165 single screw extruder for evaluation of products at high capacities and high extruder speeds; the TX-85 Magnum II twin screw extruder with hydraulically removable barrel, automated controls, dual, dry recipe infeeds, constant rate discharge, self-emptying DDC preconditioner where retention time can be automatically controlled; and the new C-sqared-- TX Conical Co-rotating twin screw extruder for producing products with bulk densities from 30-600 g/l without screw change and featuring "profile/kneading" barrel/screw design. Upgrades to accessory equipment include an enrober/dryer for application and drying of sugar slurries or seasoning powders to cereals and snacks; and automated vacuum infusion equipment for introduction of fats, oils and flavors into extruded products.
