And we don't need to rent a bus. An idea-inspiring jaunt may be just beyond the front door.
Everybody loves a field trip. But it's not always necessary to collect cash, call for parent volunteers, hire a bus, pack lunches, and issue that classic command for good behavior: "You are the ambassadors of our school!"
It's possible to go on a learning adventure without actually leaving your school campus. (And it's a lot less expensive and time-consuming.) In her book, A Guide to Great Field Trips, author Kathleen Carroll says an on-campus trip can provide "real-world learning," just as more traditional field trips do, but more conveniently. Plus, they can be great practice for an off-campus journey.
