The growing trend of smoking marijuana soaked in embalming fluid has been gaining popularity throughout the United States rapidly since the early 1990s. What began in urban, large cities in the United States is slowly making its arrival to the more affluent suburban areas, as kids who are smoking pot or crack are looking for a different type of high. Some say it the idea of smoking embalming fluid laced marijuana appeals to people's curiosity about death, as may be the case in a recently aired episode this season on the HBO original series Six Feet Under.
The current interest in the "Wet" and "Fry" drugs is mainly in the 15-22 year old range. There are several different names used to refer to embalming fluid-- soaked marijuana, depending mainly on geography. They range from happy sticks, sherm, wet, sheba, illie (short for Philly), dank, therm, clickums, clickers, hydro, fry, fry sticks and whack, just to name a few. Wet and Fry are now reportedly gaining popularity, particularly in the Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Arizona and Texas panhandle regions.
The most popular method of manufacturing Wet involves soaking marijuana in embalming fluid and drying it under fans. Some may elect to directly dip a cigar, blunt or joint into a container of embalming fluid. Once dry, the embalming fluid dried marijuana may be placed inside a gutted store-bought cigar, or hand rolled into a homemade cigarette or joint. Sometimes simple tealeaves are used in place of marijuana.
The finished cigarette product is then sold on the street for $10-20 each. For an extra high, some dealers mix in Phencyclidine (PCP) with their embalming fluid laced-marijuana to make what is called Fry, which is known to produce a more intense psychotic high. The...
