You may have seen it tagged at the end of an industry professional's name or on a business card. It's an important designation. But, what is it really?
EDPP is a designation given to certified individuals who are involved in the use and management of electronic document and printing systems, as well as in manufacturing, marketing, and supplying services related to electronic document systems. EDPP is an abbreviation for "Electronic Document and Printing Professional." Xplor International, the worldwide electronic document systems association, is the sponsoring organization for the EDPP Certification Program.
"EDPP" is also an international industry symbol for professional proficiency, experience, and commitment. Today, 140 individuals representing 130 companies and organizations from six countries have attained EDPP status, helping them become some of the best and brightest in the electronic document systems community.
For Lorena Gerlach, EDPP, a consultant with 3H Consulting in Flower Mound, TX, the decision to become an EDPP was strongly urged by her mentor. She explained that not many people in her company understood what electronic document systems meant, let alone what an electronic document systems professional was. Therefore, the program was a natural move for her to gain some recognition as a document and printing professional within the industry. "My certification has greatly enhanced my professional experience," said Gerlach.
To be accepted in the EDPP Certification Program, applicants must have a minimum of five years active experience in the field of electronic document systems, or at least three years in the field along with four years of experience in a field specifically related to the Body of Knowledge. EDPPs are also requested to accept the Electronic Document and Printing Professional Code of Ethics. Membership in Xplor is not required to enter the program.
The EDPP Certification Program also requires that the majority of work hours spent by an applicant be in one of the disciplines identified in the EDPP Body of Knowledge. The bodies of knowledge include: Communication Technologies; Document Architectures; Document Composition; Document Delivery; Document Management; Intelligent Documents and Document Capture; Internet, Intranet, and the Web; Legal Issues; Management; Marketing and Sales; Printing, Hardware, and Print On Demand; and Storage, Imaging, Archival, and Retrieval. As a candidate for certification, applicants must demonstrate expertise in at least three...
