The 1998 Convention of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) took place at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the 500 commercial exhibitors had many new developments to show visiting chiefs. Following is a look at some of the more noteworthy items exhibited.
FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION Kahr Arms K40 Auto Pistols There are two models of this .40S&W stainless steel auto pistol; standard and covert. Both locked-- breech pistols feature double action only (DAO) triggers, and accept a variety of single-stack magazines. Both have 3.5 " polygonal-rifled barrels. The main difference between them is that the K40 carries six rounds in the magazine and the K40 Covert carries five. Both pistols are very slim, measuring .94" at the slide, and overall length is 6.1 ". There is a choice of magazines, as some have grip extenders for those with big hands. The Glock Model 22P is a factory-deactivated training pistol originally developed for the FBI. Its solid barrel has ports along the front sides to show the user that it is incapable of being fired, but it accepts .40S&W training rounds from a magazine. The pistol cycles manually, and serves for malfunction drills as well. Other safety features are that the slide has no firing pin nor firing pin hole, and therefore cannot fire live rounds. The pistol is clearly identifiable by its red frame and black slide.
