Television ratings are out, and the word, for WHEC-TV 10, is "ouch."
Still number one in early news, the station nevertheless slipped substantially as WOKR-TV 13 held its ground in some parts of the day and gained in others.
The A.C. Nielsen November ratings showed WHEC had slipped in late news weekdays from a 34 share of the audience last November to a 29 share this November, as WOKR overtook it, rising to a 34 share from a 32 share.
"The strength of ABC helps us out," said WOKR general manager Vincent DeLuca. "But we nudged them out. It's nip and tuck."
Arbitron shows that in early news, WHEC slipped from a 38.2 share of the audience to 36.6, while WOKR moved from 29.8 to 33.1. WROC-TV 8 remained well behind in third place.
And in total air time -- Sunday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. -- WHEC slipped from first place to second, Neilsen reported, as WOKR overtook it.
One of the biggest disappointments for WHEC has been the performance of "The Cosby Show" in syndication. The station picked up the program this fall.
One of the most successful programs ever on network television, "The Cosby Show" commanded half the viewing audience nationally during the peak of its network run.
Expected to own the 7 to 7:30 p.m. time space, "The Cosby Show" came in second, behind "Wheel of Fortune," according to both Arbitron and Nielsen.
