AS SOMEONE from a farm community, and someone who's not too terribly far removed from college, this month's cover story was particularly interesting to me.
While I was interviewing Walt Hagood and Clay Lyons at Hagood's home near Lubbock, TX, I couldn't help but think of the young farmers I know around the Cotton Belt who have been trying to establish themselves in the first few years of their farming careers. I don't think the general public understands the obstacles that must be overcome for a young farmer to get over the hump - economically and otherwise.
