We won't know until we have a new president, but REFT on key Bush and Gore cabinet picks.
By now, REFT expected to present its picks for cabinet members in the next presidential administration. Of course, that was based on the assumption that we'd know who was president by now.
But despite the uncertainty of the White House election, there has been little slowdown in speculation as to who might assume key positions in either a Bush or Gore administrations. While Bush's post-Election Day attempt to announce a transition team fell flat, the behind-the-scenes maneuvering already has been taking place for monthsif not years.
Here is a look at who is on the short list for key finance posts in the Bush/Gore cabinets:
Under Bush
HUD: By most indications, the next HUD Secretary under the Bush administration would be former Indianapolis Mayor Steve Goldsmith. For the past two years, Goldsmith has served as an adviser to Bush, most recently as chief domestic adviser. It is Goldsmith who crafted Bush's "compassionate conservatism" concept into an effective message.
