CATHERINE KELLY listens to plans for a new creative papers division which Wiggins Teape says will be "one of the most significant things we have done".
Wiggins Teape is launching a new division this month in its bid to become the largest paper merchant in the UK.
Through The Creative Link, the company plans to leave behind competitors Robert Horne and GF Smith by not only providing a smooth merchanting service, but introducing a creative papers division which will provide an "innovative" range as well.
This will include 28 different grades in 140 colours - excluding Keaykolour embossing.
Through the mill support of Arjo Wiggins Fine Papers - Wiggins Teape's sister operation - two-tone Stratakolour will be introduced in May. This will be followed by Keaykolour Metallics in June and Yearling Jazz with a feltmark finish at the end of the year.
However, these grades will be offered as limited editions to enable new concepts to be tried out. If they work they could form part of the papermaker's portfolio. Work is also underway on developing a variety of watermarked papers.
