Willard Hess was perhaps best known for having helped build the limousine in which President John F. Kennedy was shot.
Hess' company, Hess & Eisenhardt, helped build armored cars for kings, movie stars and U.S. presidents. Kennedy's limousine came with a removable top that, Hess speculated, could have saved the president had he used it.
"We had worked on that car," Hess told The Cincinnati Enquirer in 1991, 28 years after Kennedy's death. "We had personal pride in it."
Hess died in his Cincinnati home Sunday, March 12, at the age of 94.
