Consumers are more likely to use online banking if they are confident that their sensitive information like passwords and checking account numbers are protected, not just when on a secure site but also when browsing sites that may not be secure or trusted. Winferno Software provides a web browser security solution, Secure IE 2003, that protects users' information at the main point of external contact - the web browser. Since home users and small business users access the Internet and store their personal information for online banking and sensitive financial or tax information on the same computer, the risk of hackers or unauthorized users capturing this information is higher. Accessing users' personal information via their web browser is one more trick in the hackers' arsenal of tools. While anti-virus software can protect against incoming and outgoing viruses via email attachments, users do not have the same protection through their web browser. When browsing the Internet, users can unknowingly trigger the download of unwanted ActiveX and JavaScript software commands from malicious websites, or even while on secure bank websites. A harmful program download such as a keystroke logger can capture passwords and other sensitive information that might be stored on a computer's hard drive. Winferno's Secure IE 2003 automatically intercepts these unwanted 'drive-by' program downloads making the users' browsing experience safer. Secure IE 2003 is available now. Its retail price is $29.95. A free, fully functional, 15-day trial version is available to all users. (Fran Bosecker, Winferno, 212/532-5612.)
