The Aurora Women's Pavilion is meeting or exceeding patient volume projections one ye year after opening - a sign that the self-proclaimed spa hospital is filling a needed role for women's health services, says an Aurora Health Care executive.
The $62 million, 207,000-square-foot hospital in West Allis has been criticized in some quarters for contributing to escalating health care costs in the Milwaukee area because of costly spa-like amenities that Aurora officials say add to the facility's healing environment.
Claudette Hamm, Aurora's director for women's health services, said room amenities such as whirlpool baths, multijet showers, inlayed hardwood floors, and hotelquality robes and linens create a pleasant healing environment that most patients would expect from a hospital.
Patient volumes at the hospital are increasing "on a daily basis," Hamm said.
