E-businesses are clamoring for Web hosting services, and major telecommunications providers are jockeying to offer new offerings.
WorldCom wasted no time capitalizing on its purchase of managed hosting provider Digex. In September, WorldCom agreed to pay $3 billion in stock and assume $3 billion in debt to purchase Digex's parent, Intermedia Communications. The deal won't close until early next year, but last week WorldCom began offering Digex services to WorldCom enterprise customers.
One WorldCom customer that's already looking into the services is the National Transplant Society, a nonprofit organization that operates a national organ and tissue donor registry.
