Maureen and I met loren Dunton in 1983. I was active in the local chapter of the organization that Loren had founded. The International Association of Financial Planning. I had seen Loren's picture in USA Today and, as a result, had written him a letter telling him how much I admired his work in leading the world toward financial planning.
The most I hoped for in the way of a response was possibly a letter or, better yet, a phone call, but that is not how Loren Dunton did things. A few weeks later, I get a call from Maureen, who runs our office, and she said, "He is here!"...Who?..."Loren Dunton."
I raced back to the office to meet the man himself, along with his brother, Hal.
Within about a year of that meeting, Loren had me and an army of volunteers working diligently on the first NCFE Financial Fitness Festival. It was an all-day event, where Chicago area consumers could learn about spending, saving, insuring, investing and planning. On June 9, 1984, over 250 people met at the Westin Hotel in Rosemont from nine in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon listening and learning from the following lineup of speakers.
Loren Dunton-Spending Your Way to Financial Health. David M. King, CFP-IRAs and Other Ways to Save Money.
James A. Barry, Jr., CFP (Mutual Funds)Everyone's Way to Invest.
William Bresnan (New York City talk show host)-Vital Information About Stocks & Bonds.
Alan J. Parisse-Tax Shelters Are Not Only for the Rich.
