Sharon Young Inc. -- a Dallas-based sportswear company now in its 20th year -- has become a staple for the boutique shopper looking for a classic cardigan or pantsuit to complete her wardrobe. But the company's newest line edges more toward nightclub than country club.
In recent years, designer Sharon Young has seen a demand for more updated, contemporary styles among her tried-and-true customers.
"These were women who had misses' bodies, but wanted to look like their daughters," she said.
In June, she launched Alli Y., a "fun and modern" line that she named after her 27-year-old daughter, Allison.
Young joked that the more traditional core line targets women aged "30 to death," but noted that Alli Y. gives some of those same shoppers the ability to have a younger, quirkier attitude, with a realistic fit.
"There's such a fine line between looking junior and staying hip," she explained. "There's going to be a balancing act with that customer to see how far she's going to go. We're kind of pulling her along."
