Developer Allen Zaring has picked the southern edge of Middletown as the region's next major growth pocket He's planning a $300 million combination of upscale homes, condominiums and office buildings in a project he calls "Renaissance."
Zaring was for decades one of Cincinnati's largest home builders before selling Zaring Homes to the Drees Co. in 2000. He was a driving force behind the development of the Interstate 71 corridor suburbs, such as Blue Ash, Montgomery and Mason.
Unlike his previous prokeets, Zaring will act as the developer, not the builder.
"When I came to Cincinnati 40 years ago, everybody said Cincinnati and Dayton are going to move together. Now I'm 61 years old, and I finally see that happening," he said.
Zaring is switching to the I-75 corridor. Specifically, the Ohio 122 exit off I-75, where Middletown Regional Hospital is planning a new medical facility and Middletown's Fenwick High School is building the region's first new Roman Catholic high school campus since 1962.
