The government of Zimbabwe has reinstated a ban on exports of unprocessed chrome ore with effect from April 20, phasing out an 18-month respite period granted to enable miners to recover from a decade-long economic slump.
The news comes just days after MB reported that Zimbabwe was considering banning chrome ore exports again.
Exports of raw chrome were banned in 2007 forcing mining companies to beneficiate the mineral locally, but the government relaxed the ban in November 2009 as companies battled shrinking margins...
