On Saturday, Germany shut down its last three nuclear reactors and thus abandoned nuclear power. The shutdown of the Isar 2 (southeast), Neckarwestheim (southwest) and Emsland (northwest) plants marked the end of "an era," as the energy company RWE called it.
"The risks associated with nuclear power are definitely not manageable," said Environment Minister Steffi Lemke.
Germany is switching off its last three nuclear power plants today in favor of solar and wind energy.
In the early 2000s, the German government took the decision to phase out atomic energy, even in 2011, because of the Fukushima catastrophe, the process was accelerated. Despite this plan, there was some doubt about the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, as it deprived the country of Russian gas and there was speculation that a catastrophic situation could occur, which would even be felt by the population, although this was not the case.
